“hope that as many of you as possible will support this initiative and encourage those clubs that you are appointed to on the day, and any club with which you are associated to get behind it for the benefit of a great Yorkshire Charity”
John Phillips - Chair Yorkshire Federation of Refe
In the 2016/17 season we held our first charity fundraising event when all match officials were invited to donate all, or part of their expenses on the given day to our nominated charity “Our Angels”, nominated by Chris Binnie of North Yorkshire and Cleveland Referees’ Society.
The event was incredibly well supported, not only by officials but also by many clubs. Over £3000 was donated and this was then matched £ for £ by Barclays thanks to the initiative of Jason Garrick from South Yorkshire Referees Society.
This year we are following the same tried and trusted method and the money raised from this year’s effort will be donated to “Candlelighters”, a Leeds based charity which, in many different ways, supports the families of young cancer sufferers, throughout Yorkshire.
Roger Stocker, again from North Yorkshire and Cleveland Society, nominated Candlelighters to be this year’s charity and will be visiting each member society before the event to share more information about the work that Candlelighters does, how any funds raised will be used and how referees/match observers and coaches can donate.
I hope that as many of you as possible will support this initiative and encourage those clubs that you are appointed to on the day, and any club with which you are associated to get behind it for the benefit of a great Yorkshire Charity.
